Background

Dr. Rupal Mittal is a multi-wavelength astronomer working at the interface between observations and simulations. Her research focuses on exploiting galaxy clusters as astrophysical laboratories to understand the interplay between the cooling of the intracluster medium and active galactic nuclei heating, and to determine star formation rates and properties of the stellar populations in the brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) in cool-core galaxy clusters. Her goal is to use a Bayesian-based fitting method to model the spectral energy distribution (SED) of cool-core BCGs, in order to gain insight into the physical properties of the constituent old and young stellar populations, and into the star formation history of a very special category of BCGs.
