Background

Jeyhan Kartaltepe is an observational astronomer and an expert in galaxy evolution and the role that galaxy mergers and interactions have played. She received her BA from Colgate University and then her MS/PhD from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. From there she started a postdoctoral position at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory, working on observations from the Herschel Space Observatory and received a Hubble Fellowship. She is a founding member of the CANDELS collaboration, one of the co-leads on the COSMOS survey, and a leading co-I of the CEERS project which will be one of the first to conduct observations using the James Webb Space Telescope after launch.
