Starbursts are galaxies undergoing intense episodes of star formation. The thermalization of energy deposited by supernova explosions and stellar winds in the nuclear regions of these galaxies creates a very hot bubble of plasma that disrupts the galactic disk and escapes into the intergalactic medium as a galactic superwind. In this talk I will discuss the possibility of cosmic ray acceleration in the superwind region and the production of non-thermal radiation in the halo around these galaxies, with emphasis on the nearby galaxy NGC 253.
