Mark Avara obtained his bachelors in physics at MIT, and PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2017. His research centers on astrophysical exploration of magnetohydrodynamics and strong gravity, primarily through the use of numerical and analytic studies of accretion disks onto single and binary black hole systems. He is also interested in how these systems can be coupled to their large-scale environments through feedback processes, and how they can be studied using multi-messenger techniques.
