Outreach

Education and outreach activities form an important part of the center's mission, with activities that impact undergraduate and graduate students, K-12 students and teachers, and the general public.

Education

Undergraduate and graduate students working with the center's faculty are exposed to world-class research in areas of theoretical astrophysics, gravitational physics and applied mathematics. Students also learn critical skills in operating massively parallel computers, high-performance computing (HPC) and code optimization, visualization of complex 3-dimensional data. Relevant scientific results and visualizations obtained by students are included in publications with faculty and researchers at the CCRG and are presented in scientific seminars and conferences.

Outreach

Faculty and researchers at the CCRG are also engaged in several outreach activities which directly affect both the broader scientific community as well as the local public community. This includes presentations and site visits for K-12 students and teachers, and the general public. Movies and presentations are produced as vehicle for outreach to the community at large at national and international level. For example, a 5 screen projection show on "Gravitational Waves and Binary Black Holes" has been produced by the College of Science and CCRG for the RIT community and local museums. Simulations on black hole mergers were provided to the History Channel, for a show entitled "The Universe: Cosmic Holes." The CCRG also actively participated at the "Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival." and won a Prize from the RIT Alumni Association.
