CCRG lunch - Spontaneous Scalarization of Neutron Stars

11/20/2014 - 12:30pm to 1:45pm

In certain classes of scalar-tensor theories of gravity, neutron stars may undergo a scalarization phase transition. In this talk, I will review both the early literature on this subject which concerns with isolated neutron stars and binary pulsars, as well as the more recent numerical work on dynamical scalarization in binary systems.
